Chain of Command for Green-Quality Gamers

Chain of Command is a platoon+ sized WWII skirmish ruleset produced by the famous Too Fat Lardies. It’s basically the best WWII ruleset out there. So if you have some Bolt Action miniatures collecting dust, or if Flames of War 4e has got you down, you can use your toys to play a very good game. In fact, those with 15mm manz will get the best experience. However, Chain of Command has several quirks, with the activation mechanic being the biggest/best one.

The Mystery Of The Plasma Guard Kill Team

Back in the olden days of Warhammer 40,000 4th 3rd* edition, Kill Team was born. It was a scenario driven way to play. One player built a Kill Team of individually acting soldiers/miniatures drawn from a Troops-choice unit. The other would have a roster of regular goons and leader – they were the opposition. The name of the game was cinematic action, combined with a heavily-customized squad of Your Dudes. Over the years, Games Workshop transformed KT into the closest thing to an entry level product they have.  And for some reason, the newest Kill Team release allows you to bring 8 plasma gun toting Guardsmen into the fray.

Last Chance To Buy Legions: Should I Shit My Pants?

Forums poster TTeribble had a great quote about Forge World newsletters: “Th evolution of the Friday email has been pretty great. Excited to see what new stuff is coming -> bored to tears by continual custodes releases -> excited to see what core HH SKU is getting dumpstered this week.” Previously, I wrote about the implications of Elysians going on Last Chance to Buy. Now, the company that put Solar Auxilia stuff on LCtB on the same day as it announced a new Solar Auxilia transport has struck again. Legion upgrade kits are, with zero fanfare or explanations, going on Last Chance to Buy.

Painted a Zombiecide: Black Plague Bruce

Zombiecide Black Plague Bruce
Your lame, unpainted Bruce on the left, my cool, fully painted Bruce on the right.

I run a beginner’s painting workshop at my FLGS. Yesterday, I used the opportunity to paint up this promotional Bruce character miniature from Zombiecide: Black Plague. The details were a bit of pain in the ass to paint. The character card was basically useless as a reference, since he’s covered mostly in mail rather than shirt.

On the other hand, he’s a real beauty in the photo!

Necromunda Escher Gang Is Ready To Rumble!

You already know that I have a Goliath gang for the new Necromunda Underhive game. I didn’t stop there, though: I bought the entire Necromunda starter box with no intentions of splitting. So naturally, I had to build and paint an Escher gang, too. Here are the Blacklights.

My Necromunda Goliath Gang In The Flesh!

Necromunda Underhive is a fun game! But even before I had the chance to try it, I had spent some time reading the books from the old game. That happened years before any new game was on the horizon. So when the new edition came out, I bought the starter immediately. I got to painting both gangs. And I finally bothered to take pictures of my entire Necromunda Goliath gang!

Five Reasons Why I’m Still Mad About The Imperial Guard Codex

Hatred is, after all, the Emperor’s greatest gift for humanity. And ya’ll kids know that unca JcDent has enough bile, vitriol and foul temper for two racist uncles. I had previously written my wishlist/hatelist for the upcoming Codex: Astra Militarum. That book has since been released, so here I am on the road again, bitching about the new Imperial Guard codex. Codex: Astra Militarum fixed a few problems from the Index, but not all. It introduced a few more. Here they are.

Easterlings Ready For Battle Companies

The Battle Company of Easterlings in all its glory
The Takavaran are ready! For the glory of the Temple of Ant-Hill Lion!

Games Workshop is mostly known for Warhammer 40.000 and I’m well known for whining about it. However, GW also produces a Lord of the Rings miniature wargame. It had been languishing for the longest time, beset by questionable business practices and Tom Kirby’s disdain. The new management is a little more pro-active about maintaining the property. Forgeworld is releasing miniatures from the Hobbit movie in expensive resin. Warhammer Community publishes articles around it.

More pertinently for me, Battle Companies – the individual-miniature skirmish game – has been released. It’s called Middle-earth Battle Companies, but good luck finding anyone outside GW call it that. Continue reading “Easterlings Ready For Battle Companies”

YakTribe’s Necromunda Materials Are Boss

I’ve been a busy grog

YakTribe is probably the greatest website for people interested in Specialist Games: Necromunda (both old and new), Mordheim and Gorkamorka. Before the release of Necromunda: Underhive, the website held all the PDFs you could ever want about the old game. Heck, it even supported  Inquisimunda (boo, hiss).

But now, YakTribe has released the tools for maintaining your gang roster and managing the campaign in Necromunda: Underhive/Gang Wars. The tools are amazing, beautifully done and easy to use. You can even add photos of your gangers to your profiles and you have multiple options for printable gang cards! It’s great!

Just go here.
